We recently came across the heart warming story of Nunu, a rescued Chow Chow, and it touched us so deeply that we knew we had to share it. Her journey is one of transformation, love, and resilience, and it serves as a reminder of how much a little care and compassion can change a life.
Nunu was rescued, and her story begins in a heart-breaking way. She had spent most of her life confined to a crate, destined to be used as a breeding dog. Not only was she timid from years of neglect, but she also suffered from severe entropion, a painful condition where her eyelids turned inward, threatening to cause blindness.
After two surgeries and the unwavering love of her rescuers, Nunu blossomed into a completely different dog. Now, she’s full of life, joy, and playfulness. One of her favourite pastimes is rolling around on the bed, revelling in the attention and affection, like a giant, fluffy teddy bear. What we found particularly charming was her quirky love for dressing gowns and fluffy blankets. Every time she spots one, she assumes it’s an invitation for a lively game of tug-of-war. This, of course, results in her family being dragged around the house, often leaving the blankets with a few new holes!
For a Chow, Nunu has an unusually calm and loving temperament. Chows are typically known for their independence and aloofness, but Nunu’s personality defies the stereotype. She’s gentle, affectionate, and her sweet nature surprises everyone she meets. However, she does become protective when new people visit the house, barking loudly enough for everyone to hear. Her family, who humorously describe themselves as anti-social, don’t mind this one bit! Despite her protective bark, Nunu has a few fears of her own—she’s afraid of the dark and water, adding a cute vulnerability to her tough-girl exterior.
Since her rescue, Nunu’s family has been on quite the journey—one filled with countless vet visits, but also endless joy. They say they can’t imagine life without her now. Nunu, with her beautiful smile and loving presence, has become their emotional anchor, cheering them up even on their worst days.
Nunu’s story is a testament to the power of rescue, and it reminds us all of the incredible transformations that are possible when animals are given the love and care they deserve. Her journey from a fearful, neglected dog to a happy, playful companion is one that inspired us deeply. We knew we had to share this beautiful story to show just how much difference a little kindness can make.
